The Nigerian online space has been buzzing following the confirmation that the Federal Government has commenced payment of the newly approved N77,000 monthly allowance for National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members. This development has sparked discussions across social media, with public figures like Daniel Regha weighing in on the matter.
Earlier, the Director General of the NYSC, Brigadier General Olakunle Nafiu, announced that the revised allowance would take effect from March 2025. Additionally, the Minister of Youth Development, Ayodele Olawande, assured corps members that any outstanding payments related to the increased allowance would also be disbursed.
With confirmation of the payments, some social media users have linked the implementation of the allowance to Raye, an NYSC member who went viral after criticizing President Tinubu over the country’s economic difficulties. However, Daniel Regha, a well-known social media commentator, dismissed these claims, clarifying that discussions about the revised allowance had been ongoing long before Raye’s viral outburst.
Regha also criticized those praising the government for the payment, highlighting that authorities had delayed fulfilling their commitment for several months.
The increase in NYSC allowances was initially announced by the Federal Government in September 2024, bringing excitement among corps members participating in the national youth program.
“Raye isn’t the reason why the govt started paying NYSC “77k”, her outburst raised debates but this has been an ongoing conversation for long; And again, the govt shouldn’t be getting any applause for this, not after failing to do what they promised months ago. We don’t see such delays when it comes to ’em politicians,” Daniel Regha wrote.

@chicmetax:”Even 77k isn’t even enough.”
@Palermo_seun:”Thank you for reminding us. Mr. Sowore and others are trying to take credit for the increase in the NYSC allowance, even though everyone knows that the president had already approved it before their so-called “ranting.”
@dorcasalao9:”So why fulfill the promise after her outburst.”
@yeatybabe:”At least still applaud so they can do more.”
@Omotoyobola:”The 77k matter no be today. They’ve been on it since I started service till I finished.”
@activistfemi:”If any 77k is being paid, it’s because of her protest. Accept it. You won’t die.”
@johnnyyz123:”Dan, I beg to differ. They approval of the allowee is to try to reduce(if not silent) the ongoing rant caused by Raye. They could have decided to do it next three months and nobody would cough. But why now after she came out? It’s not coincidence..”
