Famous Nigerian billionaire Aliko Dangote has caused many Nigerians to reconsider their views on spending after he mentioned “Toy” as his most costly purchase and disclosed its price.
According to the Bloomberg Billionaires Index, Aliko Dangote’s net worth is estimated to be $28.2 billion as of February 2025, making him the richest individual in Africa.
Dangote is the founder and CEO of the Dangote Group, a large company with 10 subsidiaries. These include Dangote Cement, Dangote Sugar Refinery, Dangote Flour Mills, NASCON Allied Industries (Dangote Salt), Dangote Fertilizer, Dangote Petroleum Refinery, Dangote Agro Sacks, Dangote Noodles, Dangote Transport, and Dangote Tomato Processing Plant.
In an interview with some young people, Dangote talked about money, calling it a funny visitor. He emphasized that you can have money one day and lose it the next, so he respects money and doesn’t spend it carelessly.
In the interview, Aliko Dangote caught attention when he discussed the most costly thing he has ever bought.
According to Aliko Dangote, the most costly thing he has ever bought is a toy aircraft valued at about $50 million, roughly N75.2 billion.
In his words; “Money is something that is really very funny, you can have it today and won’t be there tomorrow, you just don’t spend it any how. I don’t spend my money anyhow.”
A guy asked; “What is the most expensive thing you ever bought?”
Dangote replied; “The most expensive toy I have ever bought was my aircraft, I bought one that cost me about $50M.”
Billionaire Aliko Dangote shared advice with the group on how they can achieve wealth like his in the future.
He emphasized that nothing is impossible and highlighted the importance of honesty and maintaining a good reputation. He mentioned that a little luck can help, but hard work is essential. He also noted that having a big heart is important for taking smart risks.
