Reactions As Delta Nursing Student Publicly Reject First Lady Oluremi Tinubu In Viral

  • A video on social media shows Delta State School of Nursing students rejecting the title of “mother” for Nigeria’s First Lady, Oluremi Tinubu, during her visit.
  • Oluremi Tinubu was in Delta for her Renewed Hope Initiative (RHI), which focuses on enhancing various sectors, particularly healthcare.
  • A video making rounds on social media captures a moment of public resistance as students of the Delta State School of Nursing declined to recognize Nigeria’s First Lady, Oluremi Tinubu, as their “mother” during her recent visit to the state.

Oluremi Tinubu was in Delta as part of her Renewed Hope Initiative (RHI), a project aimed at improving various sectors, including healthcare. During the visit, Governor Sheriff Oborevwori commended her dedication, emphasizing the positive changes taking place in the health sector and the broader impact of the RHI since its inception in 2023.

As part of the event, professional kits were distributed to the wives of South-South governors, who serve as state coordinators for the initiative. Additionally, the First Lady met with traditional rulers at the Council Chambers, including the Orodje of Okpe, retired Major General Felix Mujak Peruo.

However, a particular moment during the gathering drew significant attention online. In a widely shared video, the event’s Master of Ceremony (MC) referred to Oluremi Tinubu as “everyone’s mother,” a title commonly given to First Ladies. The nursing students, however, rejected this notion. When the MC declared, “Na our mama be this” (This is our mother), the students responded in unison with “Na your mama be this” (This is your mother), signaling their disapproval.

Although the exact reason for their reaction remains uncertain, the incident has fueled discussions, especially amid growing dissatisfaction over Nigeria’s economic challenges. Under President Bola Tinubu’s administration, many Nigerians have expressed concerns about rising living costs, food scarcity, and overall economic hardship, which may have influenced the students’ response.
