With their triumph over Kashima Antlers in the Club World Cup final, Real Madrid have now surpassed rivals Barcelona for the most international titles won. Ballon d’Or winner Cristiano Ronaldo was in inspired form for Zinedine Zidane’s men as a 4-2 victory ensured his side’s trip to Japan was a fruitful one.
That win brings Real Madrid’s international title haul to 21, overtaking Barcelona, who they had been sat level on with 20 trophies apiece. The Estadio Santiago Bernabeu trophy room now contains 11 European Cup/Champions League titles, two Club World Cups, three Intercontinental Cups, two UEFA Cups and three UEFA Super Cups.
Barcelona have one less than their El Clasico counterparts with their record including five European Cups (four of those coming in the Champions League era), four European Cup Winners’ Cups, three Fairs Cups, three Club World Cups and five UEFA Super Cups.
Note: Neither the Latin Cup (they have two apiece) nor the Pequena Copa Del Mundo de Clubes (Real have two to Barcelona’s one) are counted.
