Toyin Abraham, a Nollywood actress and filmmaker, found herself in the midst of a social media tempest following the arrest of a troll known as Ayo on X.
The controversy began when Toyin was accused of coordinating the arrest of several people, including the X influencers’ mother, sister, and friends, on counts of cyberbullying, character defamation, and making death threats.
The announcement sparked a huge reaction on Nigerian Twitter, with many users expressing displeasure and advocating for a boycott of Toyin Abraham’s movies. The arrest of the influencers, who reportedly defamed Toyin and threatened both her and her son’s lives, prompted a heated internet debate. Numerous users have demanded the quick release of those arrested, claiming that the actress’s actions were excessive and a misuse of her influence and power.
Later on, one of the detainees, Ayo, was released.
Despite the criticism, Isaac Fayose has emerged as a vocal supporter of Toyin Abraham. In a widely shared video, he talked about the troubles that Toyin has faced at the hands of the public.
Fayose described the numerous forms of abuse Toyin has encountered over the past 18 months, emphasizing that her decision to contact the authorities was a result of the severe and ongoing threats against her and her family.
He also urged authorities to arrest Ayo and charge him with alleged bullying.
Captioning the video, he wrote:
“Say no to B¥llying
Too many bullies online ….
NPF please Re arrest Ayo now and take him to court!!!
@toyin_abraham deserves her peace…”
