“Redemption City used to be headquarters of robbers, pythons” – Pastor Enoch Adeboye

  • Adeboye recounted the humble beginnings of Redemption City, now a spiritual hub for millions of worshippers worldwide.
  • Adeboye reflected on the modest and perilous origins of Redemption City, which has now become a spiritual hub for millions of worshippers globally.

“We came to this land 41 years ago when it was the headquarters of highway robbers and pythons. It seemed impossible,” he shared.

“But in the dictionary of my God, there’s no word called ‘impossible.’ With God on our side, nothing could stop us, and we will not fear.”

Discussing the early difficulties, Adeboye illustrated how Redemption City, initially a marshy expanse infested with hazardous wildlife, was transformed through unwavering faith and divine direction. “We were killing a python a week,” he recalled. “The smallest was over five metres long. Poisonous snakes of all types roamed freely, yet we stood firm because the Lord had declared, ‘This is yours.’”

He recounted how, despite the odds, the inaugural Congress at Redemption City was successfully conducted.

“We had less than three months to prepare, and the land was flooded with a deep river running beneath. The brethren said, ‘It’s impossible.’ But I told them, in God’s dictionary, ‘impossible’ does not exist. We buried the river, held the programme, and later dug it up again. Nothing will stop us when God is on our side,” he said.

Drawing motivation from Numbers 14:6-9, Adeboye encouraged the congregation to embody the spirit of Caleb and Joshua, who had faith in God’s ability to overcome any obstacle.

“The Lord is with us; we will not fear,” he declared. “How many of you believe we can take over the world? Let me hear you shout Hallelujah!”
