Rema and Selena Gomez win the first-ever Best Afrobeats VMAs award

The song “Calm Down” by well-known artists Rema and Selena Gomez won the Best Afrobeats category at the 2023 MTV Video Music Awards (VMAs).

The VMAs ceremony, which honored musicians for their outstanding musical performances, took place on Tuesday at the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey.

The song “Calm Down” by Selena Gomez and Rema received three nominations: Best Collaboration, Song of the Year, and Best Afrobeats.

To their great credit, the musicians won the VMAs’ first-ever Best Afrobeats category award for their outstanding performance in “Calm Down.”

Recall that the song’s remix, which was released on August 25, 2022, has already had a lot of success, making history by becoming the first song to ever spend an entire year at the top of the Billboard US Afrobeats Songs chart and becoming the first No. 1 Hit on the Official MENA Chart.

The song has unquestionably cemented its position in musical history.
