Afrobeats star Divine Ikubor, known as Rema, made a strong comeback to his origins with a tribute that celebrated Benin’s cultural pride.
His visit to the palace of His Royal Majesty, Uku Akpolokpolo Oba Ewuare II, created a buzz of admiration throughout the city.
Arriving in his cherished hometown of Benin, Edo State, just days before his long-awaited homecoming concert, Rema sought to reconnect with his heritage and honor those who came before him.
The concert, set for August 30 at the well-known Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium, was announced in July, creating a wave of excitement throughout the country. Rema’s journey was not just about his music; it was a celebration of the land that shaped his life.
He met with the Governor of Edo State, Godwin Nogheghase Obaseki, and mingled with the city’s elite, thanking those who helped him rise so quickly.
The most memorable part of his return was visiting the Oba of Benin’s palace, where Rema showed his respect by kneeling and bowing deeply, reflecting his strong connection to his cultural identity.
With the royal blessing, Rema made a daring request to perform his well-known song in the palace’s sacred space.
Once he was allowed, the young artist began singing his chart-topping hit, his voice ringing out beautifully.
The atmosphere was charged as everyone in the room, from the royal court to the guests, joined him in singing along, their voices harmonized in a tribute that brought a sense of togetherness and festivity.
