Reno Omokri slams Davido as he congratulates Tems for winning Grammy

  • Reno Omokri criticized singer Davido while congratulating Temilade Openiyi, also known as Tems, for winning the Best African Music Performance category at the 67th Grammy Awards.
  • Reno Omokri has subtly criticized singer Davido while extending his congratulations to Temilade Openiyi, widely recognized as Tems, for her victory in the Best African Music Performance category at the 67th Grammy Awards held on Sunday, February 2.

    In a post shared on his Instagram page, Reno wrote;

    ‘’Congratulations, Tems, and thank you for bringing the Best African Music Performance Grammy back to Nigeria. It is so delightful that a proud Nigerian who always speaks well of her country has achieved the rare honour of being a double Grammy winner. We are happy for and with you, Tems. If only others can learn from you, they may have their own Grammy to boast of.”

    In another post, Reno wrote;

    ”To Win a Grammy As a Nigerian Artiste, Associate With a Nigerian Flag, Not The Flag of a Colonial Oppressor, Otherwise Your Ambition Will Be in Shambles!”

    ”When you praise the flag and image of your country, Providence will raise your swag and visage to a Grammy!” he added as His post appears to be a direct shade at Davido who has the Belgium flag on his bio.

    In November 2024, Reno criticized Davido for his appearance on a US podcast, where he discussed the Nigerian government and economy. During his guest appearance on The Big Homies House, Davido expressed that conditions in Nigeria are not favorable and cautioned African Americans against moving to Nigeria.

    “It is not cool back home. The economy is in shambles. I am talking about the situation in the country. Now the exchange rate is messed up, a lot of stuffs are not going well. The economy is just not good enough. The oil price is too high. Imagine the country that produces oil, paying more for it than a country importing oil.

    It is not cool back home. The economy is in shambles. I do my part, I am an ambassador. When I go home and I am filming, I am not going to show the bad parts.” Davido has said on the podcast

    Davido’s comments elicited criticism from multiple sources, including Reno, who condemned him through his X account. He asserted that Davido exhibited “ignorance and a deficiency in patriotism” with his remarks.
