The presidential nominees to the board and management of the Niger Delta Development Commission have been reviewed and confirmed by the House of Representatives.

On Thursday, the candidates for the positions were seen by the House ad hoc committee tasked with conducting the screening.

In accordance with section 2(2) of the Niger Delta Development Commission Act, President Bola Tinubu had written to the House of Representatives to request approval for the chairman and governing board of the Niger Delta Development Commission. ) Act.

The PUNCH reports that on August 29, the President supported Mr. Chiedu Ebie for the position of NDDC board chairman along with 16 other candidates for the commission’s board.

Erhiatake Ibori-Suenu, the chairman of the House Committee on NDDC, urged the designees to back up the trust President Bola Tinubu had placed in them in a statement on Thursday.

The NDDC needs visionary leaders with integrity now more than ever to drive the discharge of the commission’s mandate and translate to tangible impact on the lives of the people and communities in the Niger Delta.”

During the screening process, Mr. Chiedu Ebie and Dr. Samuel Ogbuku, the NDDC Chairman and Managing Director, and Chief Executive Officer designates, respectively, gave presentations in which they discussed their respective career trajectories and goals for the commission.

Ali Isa, the deputy minority leader in the house, then moved the motion for the designates to take a bow in recognition of the Senate’s similar screening and confirmation of the designates as well as the fact that some of the designates have previous experience as lawmakers.

Abdullahi Ibrahim Halims, Deputy Leader of the House, offered a second, and the committee unanimously approved the motion.

The National Assembly is expected to transmit its resolution to the Presidency right away as a result of the ad hoc committee’s decision to confirm all the designates. In doing so, the National Assembly will have effectively complied with Section 2 (2) (a) of the NDDC Act, which states that the nominees must be examined and confirmed by the Senate in consultation with the House of Representatives.

  • Mr. Abasi Nkono, State Representative Akwa-Ibom
  • Monday Igbuya, State Representative Delta,
  • Tony Okocha, State Representative Rivers
  • Patrick Aisowieren, State Representative Edo
  • Mr.Kyrian Uchegbu, State Representative Imo
  • Victor Akinjo, State Representative Ondo
  • Dimgba Eruba, State Representative Abia
  • Orok Otu Duke, State Representative Cross River

According to the House leader, Prof. Julius Inhovbere, the designates are charged with the responsibility to chart a new course for the very critical interventionist agency and be just and fair to all the communities. He further charged the designates to be guided by the fear of God and respect for the constitution in the discharge of their duties.
