Nigerians living in the UK, represented by the Association of Nigerian Professionals in the UK, have praised the Presidential Election Petition Tribunal’s decision on Wednesday upholding President Bola Ahmed Tinubu‘s victory in the February 25 presidential election in Nigeria.
In a statement released by the group on Friday and jointly signed by its Coordinator, Innocent Udoidiong, and Secretary-general, Kingsley Omole, they urged the petitioners to respect the Tribunal’s decision and added that filing an appeal would be a distraction for the president, who is already tasked with resolving the nation’s current economic crisis brought on by the removal of oil subsidies.
According to The PUNCH, the five-member panel on Wednesday rejected as meritless the petitions filed by the People’s Democratic Party and its candidate Atiku Abubakar; the Labour Party and its candidate Peter Obi; and contesting Tinubu’s designation as the victor of the presidential election as announced by the Independent National Electoral Commission.
With assistance from Stephen Adah, Monsurat Bolaji-Yusuf, Moses Ugo, and Abba Mohammed, the verdict was delivered by Justice Haruna Tsammani, the tribunal’s chair.
The statement reads ”The verdict by the tribunal is a confirmation that His Excellency, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu was overwhelmingly elected by a majority of Nigerians who genuinely love him.
“Going to appeal at the Supreme Court is a distraction to the president and his cabinet who should be allowed to tinker ways to salvage the nation’s current economic crisis occasioned by the fuel subsidy removal”.
The group also solicited the support of Nigerians for the success of President Tinubu’s term in office and assured them that they would not be disappointed.
