Nollywood star Rotimi Salami has spoken about the challenges he encountered in the film industry due to his physical appearance.
In a candid conversation on Feelrightnews TV’s YouTube channel, Salami revealed that he was repeatedly turned down by movie producers who felt his face and physique did not fit their roles.
The persistent rejection took a toll on him, forcing him to reconsider his career path. As a result, he decided to further his education. He also recalled the struggles of attending auditions, often traveling long distances from his home in hopes of securing a role.
“It was not easy at all during the time of our movie auditions because it was quite far from where I was living,” he recalled. He also revealed that despite his persistence, his efforts were often met with rejection.
“For three years, I was given only one movie role,” Salami shared. However, the rejection that hit him the hardest came when producers told him that his appearance was not suitable for the roles available at the time. He explained that he was often criticized for his small face and body, with many producers saying that movie roles were typically given to actors with a more muscular build.
“I cried when some producers said they couldn’t give me movie roles because of my face and body,” Salami said.
