ROYAL WEEDING: Princess Eugenie’s Wedding Sparks Anger

ROYAL WEEDING: Princess Eugenie’s Wedding Sparks Anger

Princess Eugenie’s wedding has sparked anger after it was revealed it will be even bigger than Prince Harry’s.

She and fiancee Jack Brooksbank have invited more guests to St George’s Chapel in Windsor than the church will actually hold.

And it was also revealed that she has even brought in the expensive party planner David Beckham uses to help organise their wedding events which will span the whole weekend.

They have asked 850 guests to their wedding – meaning staff will need to bring in extra chairs into the chapel, which seats just 800.

By comparison Harry and Meghan invited just 600 guests to their ceremony at the same venue in May.

Their wedding has been widely criticised for its size and cost to the taxpayer through additional security measures in Windsor.

Chris Williamson, the Labour MP for Derby North said: “Who’s heard of Princess Eugenie anyway?

“She carries out no royal functions, no useful purpose to the public sphere and yet we’re having to spend this kind of money.”

One source said: “The wedding itself is going to be huge and they are hoping quite a few of the people they’ve invited won’t be able to come because of the capacity issue.”

They also want their wedding to rival Harry’s on the celebrity guest front.

Among those invited are George and Amal Clooney, the Beckhams, Robbie and Ayda Williams and artist Tracey Emin.

Eugenie has hired Peregrine Armstrong-Jones, the celebrity party planner who organised the lavish wedding reception for Posh and Becks at Luttrellstown Castle, near Dublin, in 1999.

While Harry and Meghan needed only a single day and night for the first royal wedding of the year in May, Eugenie, 28, and her husband-to-be, Jack, 32, will stretch their celebrations into a second day.

The run-up to the wedding has not been free of controversy, despite Eugenie’s status as the ninth in line to the throne.

She does not perform official royal duties, and reports that her plan for a carriage ride around Windsor would inflate security costs to at least £2m prompted complaints that taxpayers were being stuck with an unacceptable bill.

The Queen and the Duke of York will pay for the couple’s three wedding parties from their own funds.
