Ruger And Joeboy Stir Controversy With Cryptic Posts Before Album Release

  • Ruger and Joeboy engaged in a social media rivalry before their album releases on March 28.
  • Both artists posted cryptic messages on X, hinting at competition.
  • Ruger expressed confidence in his album, “Blown Boy Ru,” suggesting it would be so influential that some peers might need to rework their music.

Nigerian music stars Ruger and Joeboy appeared to engage in a social media rivalry just before the release of their respective albums on March 28.

On Thursday, March 27, both artists shared cryptic messages on X, seemingly aimed at each other.

The exchange began when Ruger confidently claimed that his upcoming album, Blown Boy Ru, would be so impactful that some of his peers might feel compelled to return to the studio for a redo. However, he noted that others wouldn’t have the chance since they were releasing their albums on the same day as his.

He wrote, “Some people will have to go back to the studio after they hear this album; some people won’t even have the chance to coz they dropping the same day as me sad! #blownboyru.”

Fans quickly speculated that his comment was directed at Joeboy, whose album Viva Lavida was also scheduled for release on the same day.

Shortly after, Joeboy seemingly responded with his own cryptic post, suggesting that some artists were attempting to compete with him despite the limitless opportunities available.

“The sky is big enough for everyone to fly, but some people are choosing to fly right beside me lol. I get it, I inspire you,” Joeboy posted.

Unsurprisingly, fans interpreted this as a subtle jab at Ruger.

This isn’t the first time Nigerian artists have clashed over release dates. On May 13, 2022, a similar rivalry unfolded between Burna Boy and Davido when they dropped their singles Last Last and Stand Strong on the same day. The competition intensified when both songs vied for dominance on the Apple Music charts, with Davido celebrating when his track initially took the lead, while Burna Boy later rejoiced when Last Last overtook it.
