A Coroner’s Court in Ikorodu, Lagos State, has issued a warning to important witnesses to show up for the ongoing investigation into the death of singer Ilerioluwa Aloba (Mohbad) or they will be subpoenaed.
The court has allowed for alternative service on witnesses, including Naira Marley and Sam Larry, after Mohbad’s father requested more witnesses.
At the most recent session, only one key witness, Boluwatife Adeyemo (Darosha), attended.
The court has postponed the hearing until September 30, with the magistrate indicating that subpoenas will be issued if the witnesses do not appear.
Mohbad’s family is frustrated with the police investigation, claiming that the police are not doing enough and are too reliant on witness accounts.
The family’s lawyers have criticized the police for not assisting with their independent autopsy and toxicology tests.
They have also requested that the Inspector General of Police and the Police Service Commission remove the officers involved in the case due to alleged mishandling, but the Police Service Commission has not yet responded.
Mohbad died on September 12, 2023, at the age of 27, and his death has led to controversy, resulting in the arrest of his former record label owner, Naira Marley, and others.
The Lagos State Police set up a special team to investigate the singer’s death, and they exhumed his body to conduct an autopsy.
