Nigerian music producer Sarz, whose full name is Osabuohien Osaretin, recently spoke about why he has never collaborated with Afrobeats superstar Davido in an interview on Cool FM, a leading radio station in Lagos.
The conversation, which was later shared on X by user @AjMachalaa, revealed insights into Sarz’s working style and his reasons for not partnering with Davido in the studio. According to Sarz, the key difference lies in their contrasting approaches to the creative process.
Sarz, dressed casually in a checkered shirt and headphones, explained that while Davido thrives on having a lively group of people around him when working on music, he prefers a quieter, more focused environment. Sarz explained:
“Davido always like people around him whenever he’s in the studio and for me that’s not how I work. I like to work alone with the artist maybe that’s why we have not worked.”

Sarz’s revelation sparked further conversation about the creative dynamics in the Nigerian music industry. His preference for a solitary, intimate studio setup contrasts with Davido’s more collaborative approach, which often includes a group of songwriters and hype men to inspire energy and creativity.
Known for producing hits for global stars like Wizkid and Burna Boy, as well as Drake’s “One Dance,” Sarz has built a successful career with a distinct approach to music production. His comments on Cool FM highlighted the importance of aligning creative processes when forming successful partnerships in the music industry.
The discussion on X also reflected varying opinions on the role of collaboration in music. While some fans saw Davido’s method of working with a team as a possible weakness, others viewed it as a strategic way to ensure the production of hit songs, showcasing the modern trend of collaborative music creation.

@wise32GB noted:”Davido isn’t the only A-list artist who has people in the studio with him. If you run a label, you will understand. Sarz is talking about his own strength. I don’t think his message is about shading Davido. Go school, you said no. See the result now”
@jxsephabalokwu replied: “Simply because he can’t create himself so he needs songwriters around and that’s not a bad thing.”
