The Senate, on Thursday, rejected two out of the 47 non-career Ambassadorial nominees, sent to it by President Muhammadu Buhari, on January 12, 2017.
The two rejected nominees are Justice Sylvanus Adiewere Nsofor, from Imo State; and Jacob Igbekele Daodu, from Ondo State.
Explaining the rationale behind the disqualification of Nsofor, Chairman of the Senate Committee on Foreign Affairs, Senator Monsurat Sunmonu, said the Imo nominee was too old to hold a public office. The nominee is 82 years old.
As for the Ondo State nominee, Daodu, the Foreign Affairs Committee Chairman, said he was disqualified, because of a report from the Department of State Security Services, DSS.
According to the Senate President, Bukola Saraki, who presided over the day’s Legislative business, these are the names of the 45 confirmed nominees.
