Senator Dino Melaye has been slammed with a nine-count charge that borders on lying and resisting arrest.
The new charges were filed after the senator fulfilled the bail conditions a high court in Abuja granted him on Friday. In the charge sheet, one Silas Omenka was named as a defendant in the suit filed by the police.
It is unclear who Omenka is and the role he played during the 8-day siege laid to the Abuja residence of the lawmaker. The siege ended on January 4 when Melaye surrendered to the police. The senator had been accused of culpable assault. The police alleged that in July, his supporters shot one Danjuma Saliu, an officer in Kogi state.
