The Senate has begun the vetting of the newly nominated Resident Electoral Commission of the Independent National Electoral Commission.
The recently designated INEC RECS are: Prof. Mohammed Yelwa (Niger), Oluwatoyin Babalola (Ekiti), Abubakar Ahmed Ma’aji (Gombe), Shehu Wahab (Kwara), Etekamba Umoren (Akwa Ibom), and Isah Shaka Ehimeakne (Edo).
The others are Aminu Kasimu Idris (Nasarawa), Bunmi Omoseyindemi (Lagos), Isma’ila Kaura Moyi (Zamfara), and Anugbum Onuoha (Rivers).
In a letter to the Senate, President Bola Tinubu requested that it choose and approve ten new Resident Electoral Commissioners for terms of five years.
The Senate President, Godswill Akpabio, read a letter with the President’s request at Tuesday’s session.
The Independent National Electoral Commission selected the RECs last week.
