  • Nigerian movie director and producer, Seun Egbegbe, has been released from prison after five years and eight months.
    • Egbegbe, who was the boss of Ebony Production, allegedly swindled the BDC operators out of money by claiming that he had naira to change into foreign currencies and vice versa.

The ray of light has beamed on Nollywood film-maker and producer, Olajide Kareem, aka Seun Egbegbe, as he just regained freedom after spending roughly three years and six months in prison.

Seun Egbegbe who is an ex lover of Nollywood actress, Toyin Abraham was incarcerated on February 10, 2017, after obtaining money by false pretence from no fewer than 40 bureaus de change operators in different parts of Lagos from 2015 to 2017.

Egbegbe, who was the boss of Ebony Production, allegedly swindled the BDC operators out of money by claiming that he had naira to change into foreign currencies and vice versa.

The filmmaker was reported to have swindled the BDC operators out of money by claiming that he had naira to change into foreign currencies and vice versa.

Lagos state police command has said that he duped his victims of sums which totalled N39,098,100, $90,000, and £12,550.

The ex-boss of Ebony Production was first arraigned alongside one Oyekan Ayomide in February 2017, before Justice Oluremi Oguntoyinbo on 36 counts bordering on advance free fraud.

The prosecutor, Innocent Anyigor, said Egbegbe and the other defendants acted contrary to Section 8 of the Advance Fee Fraud and Other Related Offences Act 2006 and were liable to be punished under Section 1(3) of the same Act.

His charge sheet was subsequently amended twice, with the count eventually increasing to 40.

But Egbegbe was set free on October 11, 2022 after spending 68 months in jail.

Justice Oluremi Oguntoyinbo of the Federal High Court Ikoyi, reviewed his case, and found the filmmaker guilty of just one of the 44 counts charged against him.

The judge said 43 of the 44 were thrown out due to lack of witnesses to substantiate their claims.
