Afrobeats singer Seun Kuti talked about how his father, the legendary Fela Anikulapo Kuti, made sure his teachers didn’t hit him in school. He explained that his dad wanted to take care of discipline personally.
Seun shared that on his first day of school, his father gave him a note for the headmistress, telling her not to punish him. When he moved to secondary school, his father did the same with the principal.
He recalled an incident when a teacher hit him, prompting him to rush home to tell his dad. The music star expressed that his father’s actions towards the teacher caused him a lot of pain, yet it also made him feel happy because he had a dislike for that teacher.
Seun pointed out that some people view hitting children as an African practice. However, the 41-year-old singer, who will be 42 on January 11, 2025, clarified that it was Africans who were beaten. Thus, the question to consider is, who were the ones inflicting the beatings?
The singer’s comments was related to the three-year-old child at Christ-Mitots School in Ikorodu, Lagos, who was harmed by his teacher, Stella Nwadigo.
She hit the boy repeatedly for not writing some numbers right in class. This incident created a stir on social media and prompted the Lagos state government to take action and arrest her.
