Shallipopi: Throwback Video of Zinoleesky Warning Singers of Labels’ Exploitation Reemerges Online

  • Nigerian singer Zinoleesky’s throwback video highlights insufficient pay for some music industry artists on the internet.
  • Crown Uzama, also known as Shallipopi, has left the Dapper record.
  • Obapluto singer Zinoleesky expressed concern over label mismanagement and trust, stating that artists may find it difficult to believe their colleagues have made significant progress.

A nostalgic video featuring Nigerian artist Oniyide Azeez, widely recognized as Zinoleesky, has reemerged online, in which he articulates concerns regarding the inadequate compensation received by certain musicians within the industry.

This development follows the departure of Crown Uzama, known professionally as Shallipopi, from Dapper Records.

According to GistLover, the Obapluto singer voiced his dissatisfaction with the way his record label compromised his trust and mismanaged his financial affairs. In the widely circulated video, Zinoleesky remarked that the share taken by record executives makes it challenging for artists to acknowledge the significant achievements of their peers.

The singer stated:

“You that your boss collects 70% and you collect 30%, are you the one that wants to buy a Ferrari. Are you the one your age mate would buy a Ferrari, and you would believe it? No, you wouldn’t. When you aren’t worth it, you wouldn’t believe your age mate who is worth it exists.”

He added that most artistes are not getting nice deals but only look sophisticated in their dressing.

He said: “All these people are not getting nice deals. They are not doing good. Only clothes are what they wear. They are not okay. Be wise. Industry life would implicate you all. Fake life. And those of you who said you are not under label but management, you are doomed. Go and wise up, I can’t deceive you. That’s my own advise. Good bye.”

Social media users have responded to the resurfacing of Zinoleesky’s throwback video, which appeared online soon after Shallipopi departed from his record label.
