Amaopusenibo Siminalayi “Sim” Joseph Fubara, (born on January 28, 1975 ) is the Governor of Rivers State. He was once Nigeria’s Rivers State’s accountant general.
Childhood and Education
In Rivers State’s Opobo–Nkoro Local Government Area, he was born in Opobo Town. After completing his elementary education at Opobo Primary School, he continued his education at Opobo Comprehensive Secondary School and then enrolled at Rivers State University of Science and Technology to study accounting. In 2013 and 2016, he received his MBA and MSc from the University of Port Harcourt, respectively.
Projects
Sim Fubara, the governor of Rivers State, and Julius Berger signed a N195.3 billion deal for the building of the Port Harcourt Ring Road project. When the project is finished, it would pass through six local government districts in the state, which will relieve traffic in Port Harcourt. The governor added that the project would receive a more than 150 billion advance from the state.
Career Sim began working for the Rivers State Senior Secondary Schools Board as a principal accountant in 2003. At the State’s government house, he advanced to the post of director of finance and accounts in 2015, and in March 2020, he became permanent secretary. December 23, 2020, saw his appointment as Rivers State’s accountant general, which lasted until May 20, 2022, when he won the People’s Democratic Party governorship primaries for the 2023 general elections.
He is a Fellow of the Nigerian Institute of Management, Fellow of Association of National Accountants of Nigeria.
Controversy
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission issued a wanted list for Fubara and 58 other government officials in May 2022 due to an NGN 435 billion fraud. He and four other government officials from Rivers State were also wanted charged with a fraud worth NGN 117 billion. The EFCC further accused the defendants of criminal conspiracy, money laundering, embezzlement of public funds, and abuse of office.
Personal life
Fubara is the first son of Late Love Fubara, a civil servant, and Late Joseph Fubara, a former soldier who served an overseas training tour. Fubara is the second of five children. In addition, he holds a knighthood from the Church of Nigeria Anglican Communion’s St. Christopher (KSC) Order. Amaopu-Senibo, the traditional chieftaincy title of Opobo Kingdom, is held by him.
