Nigerian Afrobeats artist Alexander Adelabu, popularly known as Magixx, has shared the story of how he became a part of Mavin Records.
In a recent interview with Adesope, Magixx explained that his initial goal was not to sign with a record label but to find a manager who could help guide his music career and increase his exposure. While searching for the right person, he was unexpectedly contacted by Don Jazzy, the founder of Mavin Records.
He recalled that after a period of discussions, he received an offer from the label around September or October 2020. Eventually, he signed a contract, making him the last artist to join Mavin Records at that time.
Magixx said: “I reached out to someone that I need person wey go dey manage me, wey go help me, because really tight that time. He reached out to couple of people that was how Don Jazzy happened. I was just looking for a manager. I wasn’t even thinking about record label. I was just thinking of someone that could put me on shows for the world to see my talent.
“I got reached out to in September/October 2020, and I got offered a contract. I was the last to come in. They were going to unveil Ayra Starr that September, but because of 2020 COVID, they pushed her unveiling to January and every other person were unveiled thereafter”.
