Afrobeats artist Mayorkun recently reflected on the pivotal moment in his life when Davido discovered him through social media, a turning point that significantly altered his career trajectory. His journey to stardom commenced in 2016 with a cover of Davido’s track “The Money.”
Davido found him on Twitter and subsequently signed him to his record label, DMW. Mayorkun’s debut single, “Eleko,” quickly gained popularity, leading to his recognition as the Next Rated artist at The Headies in 2018.
Affectionately known as ‘The Mayor of Lagos,’ Mayorkun shared his memories of meeting Davido during a heartfelt introduction at the TraceLive x Tiger Beer concert in Lagos.
He expressed profound gratitude to Davido for transforming his life and providing him with the platform to showcase his talent. Additionally, he acknowledged the unique connection he has with his fans, who have supported him throughout his journey.
“I came into this world just like every other person”, he began in a soft tone “but God gave me a gift on my way here. On my way to fulfill my destiny, I met a man called Davido and everything changed. Now, I have the opportunity to meet far more people than I can ever imagine. I’m about to take you guys on a journey – how it all started and how it’s going. My name is Mayorkun, The Mayor Of Lagos!”
During his performance at the TraceLive x Tiger Beer concert, Mayorkun showcased his popular tracks, including “Eleko” and “Of Lagos.”
The inclusion of Eyo dancers enriched the performance with a vibrant display of Lagos culture, while Poco Lee made a surprise appearance, energizing the audience and enhancing the overall atmosphere.
