Nigerian singer Temilade Openiyi, widely recognized as Tems and a Grammy award winner, has become a partner in the ownership group of Major League Soccer team San Diego FC.
The club made the announcement on Wednesday, revealing that Tems has joined the ownership group via her company, The Leading Vibe.
With this development, Tems has made history as the first African woman to participate in MLS ownership.
“We are delighted that Tems has joined San Diego FC as a club partner,” stated SDFC chairman Sir Mohamed Mansour in a press release.
“Tems is a globally significant artist who will help us reach new audiences and spread the word about our unique project, which, of course, has its foundations in sub-Saharan Africa through the unique Right to Dream organization.”
In response to her recent inclusion in the ownership group of San Diego FC, the singer expressed her excitement by stating, “I am thrilled to join San Diego FC’s ownership group and to be part of a club that celebrates creativity, culture, and the power of community.
“Football has a unique way of bringing people together, and I am excited to help build something special in San Diego, a city that thrives on diversity and innovation.”
In other news, Nigerian actress and filmmaker Omoni Oboli and her husband Nnamdi Oboli opened up about their marriage.
In a recent episode of Pulse Fun Facts, they shared their experiences since getting married on October 28, 2000, discussing the challenges they encountered and the keys to their enduring relationship.
When her husband asked her if she had thought about leaving their marriage, she said: “Have you ever had any ‘I am done’ moment in our relationship and how did you handle it?”
To which Omoni Oboli replied, “No, I’ve never.”
She acknowledged that there were times when she wondered if marrying young was the right choice.
“I’ve had moments where I was like ‘why did I get married so early?’ but never ‘I’m done’. Ever,” she clarified.
The couple reflected on their early marriage, recalling their frequent arguments. Omoni Oboli pointed out that their misunderstandings were due to not dating prior to their wedding.
“When we first got married, we quarreled every single day. We quarreled a lot. We quarreled so much.
“It’s because we didn’t date. That’s what people don’t realise. We didn’t date. So, that first month, we were really just getting to know each other well,” she explained.
Nnamdi Oboli shared advice with young couples, highlighting how crucial it is to take responsibility in a marriage.
“Marriage is a responsibility. You don’t go into a marriage expecting it to happen to you. You are not the third party in your marriage. You are the relationship. It’s between two people; you have to make it work,” he advised.
