Singer Yemi Alade leads campaign for menstrual health

A prominent global non-profit organization, Population Services International Nigeria, has partnered with renowned Afrobeats artist Yemi Alade to unveil a short film, a music single, and a music video as part of a campaign focused on menstrual health and hygiene. This initiative aims to break the silence surrounding menstruation and combat the stigma that women encounter, while also promoting positive change.

The film, titled ‘Time of the Month’, combines narrative and music to enhance awareness, alter perceptions, and dispel myths related to menstruation. It aspires to empower women and girls to embrace menstrual health without feelings of shame. The cast features some of the most talented actors from Nollywood, including Aisha Lawal, Liquorose Afije, Mary Njoku, Ibrahim Suleiman, Mike Ezuruonye, and Femi Branch.

Pritpal Marjara, a representative from PSI Nigeria, commented on the selection of artists, emphasizing that their credibility, relatability, and dedication to women’s health make them exemplary collaborators.

She also expressed that PSI is confident that such a partnership will positively influence the perception of menstrual health in Nigeria.

“Nigerian celebrities are believed to be significant influencers. They have, on several occasions, shaped Nigerians’ perceptions, and partnering Nigerian artists will significantly shift public perception of menstrual health in Nigeria.”
