Popular Nigerian musician Wizkid’s smash hit, Holla At Your Boy, was recently used as content for skit maker Gilmore.
The young comedian reproduced the music video that dominated the entertainment industry at the time and posted his version on social media.
Gilmore and other content makers recreated the opening scene from Wizkid’s original video, which shows Banky W sending the singer off at school.
They then showed Gilmore sitting besides a lovely lady and displaying interest in her, just like Wizkid did in the original clip.
The skitmaker even went so far as to purchase apparel with the phrase ‘Holla At Your Boy’ inscribed on it, as well as bicycles to ride around the school like Star Boy did.
Gilmore captioned the video, explaining how much Wizkid’s song video influenced young people at the time.
He wrote in part:
“It’s safe to say this song was the beginning of Wizkid’s big influence on we the GEN-Z and the birth of a New Era in Nigeria’s Entertainment.
From every youngster wanting to be a cool kid, to kids jerrking, to wanting your mother to purchase you Supras, to everyone wearing Snapbacks, carrot jeans, AMA KIP KIP, and many other influences he had on this generation.”
Gilmore’s reproduction of Wizkid’s Holla At Your Boy video quickly became a trending topic on social media, with prominent celebs expressing their admiration, including Don Jazzy, who dropped a sticker showcasing his approval.
