Rema articulates his perspective on the reluctance some individuals exhibit in recognizing the accolades he has earned.
Following the worldwide acclaim of his chart-topping single ‘Calm Down,’ Rema has consistently asserted his position among the foremost representatives of Afrobeats.
In both his EP ‘Ravage’ and his recently launched sophomore album ‘HEIS,’ Rema has confidently asserted his claim to be included among the “Afrobeats Big 3,” a term that refers to the prominent trio of Davido, Wizkid, and Burna Boy.
During a recent interview on The Breakfast Club, Rema expressed that some may hesitate to acknowledge his assertions of being on par with the “Afrobeats Big 3” due to his relatively short tenure in the industry.
“I think the success came too quickly that some people wish I didn’t get it too quick,” Rema responded when questioned about his belief in deserving a place alongside Davido, Burna Boy, and Wizkid.
“You know when they want to give you respect and you have to be 10 years in the game, I think my career didn’t play according to those rules. I was already breaking 7-year-old records when I was just 3 years in the game,” Rema added.
“With respect to the OGs, but I am one of them…,” Rema replied when asked if he believes he deserves a spot next to Davido, Burna Boy, and Wizkid.
In the interview, Rema also discussed his second album ‘HEIS,’ which he states was inspired by his ambition to challenge the prevailing norms.
