Nigerian singer Spyro has opened up about a bitter experience involving music executive Ubi Franklin, accusing him of using Davido’s name to manipulate him into performing at an event.
In an interview on The Link Up podcast, Spyro revealed that Ubi Franklin approached him with an offer to perform at a birthday party, claiming Davido had invited him and would pay $5,000 for the performance. Spyro, however, expressed skepticism, noting that his minimum performance fee was N20 million.
Despite his concerns, Ubi Franklin reportedly persuaded Spyro to go ahead with the performance. After taking the stage, Spyro inquired about his payment, only to be told that Davido was unaware of the arrangement.
Describing the ordeal, Spyro called it a “broad daylight scam,” alleging that Ubi Franklin falsely used Davido’s name to get him to perform.
In Spyro’s words:
“Ubi came and said David invited us to perform at the birthday party and promised $5,000. I pulled him aside and said, ‘Bro, I don’t charge 5k; the least I charge is N20 million.’ After the performance, I asked Ubi about the payment, and he confessed that Davido wasn’t aware of the arrangement. I was shocked—this was broad daylight scam!”
The revelation has sparked discussions among fans, with many questioning the ethics of such practices in the music industry.
