According to PUNCH Sports Extra, Nigeria’s Super Eagles still ranked 40th in the most recent FIFA men’s rankings for October.
This is true even though they have just played since the September FIFA world rankings, recording a win and a draw in their most recent friendlies during the international break.
Despite adding 1.62 points during the reviewed month, the Super Eagles’ total point total remained at 1490.48, which kept them in 40th place.
In the first of the two friendlies, the Eagles drew 2-2 with Saudi Arabia before winning 3-2 against Mozambique. However, their ranking on the table was largely unaffected by the outcomes.
After placing 35th in Africa in December, Jose Peseiro’s team saw a sharp decline in their ranking in April, dropping to 40th.
It was stated that their decision to not play in the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar was the main cause of this decline.
Nigeria dropped to 40th place in September after holding the 39th spot in the rankings in June and July.
The three-time African champs are still sixth in the continent.
In the meantime, Morocco continues to hold the top spot in Africa and holds the 13th position globally.
Senegal continued to hold the second spot in Africa and the 20th spot in the overall rankings.
The only nation in the top six to lose points was Tunisia, which was the only African nation among the top six on the continent to advance internationally last month. They were placed 29 in the prior rankings, but they are currently 32nd in the globe according to the FIFA update that was made public on Thursday.
The Top 5 in Africa are completed by Egypt (35) and Algeria (33).
Argentina, the World Cup victors, continues to be recognized as the top country in the world, surpassing France, Brazil, England, and Belgium.
