The Taraba State chapter of the Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT) praised Dr. Agbu Kefas, the state’s governor, for restoring 16 teachers who had been fired 18 months prior over a dispute involving the Union and its election.

The Union also praised the governor for paying the 18-month salaries of the reinstated teachers promptly, saying that this demonstrated to the public the governor’s commitment to enhancing the state’s educational system.

NUT’s state chairman, Comrade Nathan Solomon, said in a press conference that the union was still appreciative of the governor’s efforts to strengthen the state’s educational system.

As well as urging Governor Kefas to persuade the Taraba State Primary Education Board to pay the union’s check-up dues, which have been withheld for more than two years, he also urged the governor to pay the teachers another outstanding five months’ worth of salary arrears that they are owed by the recently-departed administration.

“We have been running our union without remittance of checkup dues for over years years. The dues have been withheld by the State Primary Education Board, we are pleading with the governor to intervene in the matter,” Solomon stated.
