She mentioned that her goal was to perform every Friday at a bar, but they turned her down because she didn’t have any songs. So, she decided to record a song, even though she only had three at that time. In 2019, after she released “Try Me” and its music video, she learned that Wizkid wanted to meet her, which led to their collaboration on “Essence” that same year.

Tems explained that for a long time, she didn’t have a clear direction and just went along with things until she released her EP.

She expressed a wish that she had dreamed bigger, as it would have better prepared her for her career and the spotlight.
