Tems Takes Home Best Gospel/Inspirational BET Award for 2024

The Dr. Bobby Jones Best Gospel/Inspirational Award winner at last night’s 2024 BET Awards was a significant career achievement for Nigerian artist Temilade Openiyi, better known by her stage name Tems.

The song “Me & U.” by the singer-songwriter defeated Shirley Caesar (“Award All of the Glory”), Kirk Franklin (“All Things”), Halle Bailey (“Angel”), CeCe Winans (“Come Jesus Come”), Erica Campbell (“Do You Believe in Love?”), Maverick City Music, Naomi Raine & Chandler Moore (“God Problems”), and Kirk Franklin (“Try Love”) to win the award.

The winner of the BET Awards Dr. Bobby Jones Best Gospel/Inspirational Award is a modern urban gospel performer. A combination of sales and the general calibre of content released during the qualifying period determines the winner.

The award was originally titled Best Gospel Artist but was later renamed to its current title in 2017.
