In Bungudu town, the administrative center of Bungudu Local Government Area in Zamfara State, at least seven people have been reported abducted as armed bandits invaded the town.
According to reports, the terrorists entered the town, which is 20 kilometers from Gusau, the state capital, with heavy weapons, kidnapped seven people—two men and five women—and killed one.
Alhaji Ibrahim Bungudu, a local, told the Daily Post that the abductees were Prince Abdulrahman Hassan Attahiru, the emir of Bungudu’s son; a former IPAD State program officer; three of Alhaji Umaru Sanda’s wives; the wife of one Abdullahi Zubairu; and the wife of one Hamisu Rabi’u.
However, he claimed that the kidnappers had not requested a ransom and that the abducted people’s families had declined to speak with reporters about the incident.
When contacted, Abdulmalik Zubairu, a family member of one of the kidnapped individuals and member of the House of Representatives for the Maru/Bungudu federal constituency, said the incident was devastating and regrettable and that the government would do everything in its power to ensure the restoration of peace and tranquility in the state.
Remember that on August 7, 2023, in the wee hours, bandits attacked the divisional police headquarters in Bungudu and killed ASP Nura Ibrahim, who was set to receive a new rank (ASP) that day.
The resurgence of banditry in Zamfara State has the attention of all relevant authorities, particularly security agencies, which also lose a large number of personnel in active duty.
The police have not yet responded to recent reports of kidnapping in the state.
