Popular music video director TG Omori has spoken in defense of TikTok influencer Peller after the latter received heavy criticism for urging users to halt the viral 30 Days Rant Challenge.
The challenge, which has gained significant traction, involves Nigerians publicly venting their frustrations over the country’s economic struggles for 30 consecutive days. Many see it as a way to express their grievances and hold authorities accountable. However, Peller cautioned participants that such prolonged online protests could be viewed as offensive by the government and might even lead to a ban on TikTok in Nigeria. He suggested that those with concerns shift their protests to Instagram or engage in physical demonstrations instead.
Peller’s remarks sparked a wave of reactions. Some users agreed with his viewpoint, recognizing the potential risks of the challenge, while others accused him of being more concerned about TikTok than the everyday struggles of Nigerians. The controversy intensified when an X (formerly Twitter) user bluntly posted, “I hate this guy called Peller.”
In response to the harsh comment, TG Omori defended Peller, writing, “Hate is a strong word, He’s just a boy.” His statement further fueled the discussion, with some applauding him for standing up for the influencer, while others maintained that Peller deserved criticism for his stance.
The debate highlights the growing tension surrounding social media activism in Nigeria, with some advocating for free expression and others fearing potential consequences.
