Veteran Nollywood actor Richard Mofe-Damijo, popularly known as RMD, has expressed his discomfort with being referred to as a “legend.”
During a recent appearance on Curiosity Made Me Ask, a YouTube show hosted by Nigerian skit creator Bea U, RMD explained why he distances himself from the legendary title. He described it as misleading, noting that it often implies that someone’s prime is behind them and that retirement is near.
The iconic actor emphasized that while he deeply respects Nollywood greats like Pete Edochie and Olu Jacobs, who he believes truly embody the term, he doesn’t feel that he fits into that category—at least not yet.
According to RMD, being called a legend feels like a subtle way of being told his best years are over, a sentiment he strongly disagrees with as he continues to remain active and relevant in the film industry.
He said, “I think all those legend thing is a scam. I have my legends like uncle Olu Jacobs, uncle Peter, those are our ancestors, our legends.“I was still watching him when he was saying Ribena children are healthy children.
“So I don’t subscribe to that, I think it is a scam when they call me legend because they are trying to relegate me to that neighborhood of retired people or should be nearing retirement. So, no, I don’t subscribe to it.”
