"The police violated my rights" - Speed Darlington reveals

Controversial Nigerian singer and content creator Speed Darlington has recently shared his experience following his arrest and detention for defamation. In a widely circulated video on October 17, 2024, he recounted his time in police custody, claiming that his rights were infringed upon.

He said, “The police violated my civil rights and my human rights and denied me the opportunity to talk to my family and my lawyer. The rule says I can only be detained for two days yet I was held for four without any opportunity to speak to my people.”

“It seems like I’m not on social media like I used to be but what doesn’t kill me makes me stronger. I am stronger now, you feel me? 17 arrests in the USA plus this one making 18 arrests, nothing mega. I have been to the bottomless pit where there is no hope if you don’t know anybody, your own don finish,” Darlington added.

The circumstances surrounding his arrest came to light after an SOS message was posted on his Instagram account on October 7, 2024, indicating that he had been missing for three days and urging anyone with information to assist.

Speed Darlington was apprehended for defamation due to a video he produced about Burna Boy, in which he claimed the artist had ties to American rapper Diddy, who had recently been arrested on charges related to sex trafficking and other offenses. The video gained significant attention, and following Darlington’s arrest, he became a prominent topic of discussion online.

The situation escalated when Speed Darlington’s mother disclosed that her son had been reported missing after he released the video about Burna Boy. In a heartfelt plea, she was seen imploring the musician to show compassion and release her son.

Eventually, he was located at a holding facility in Abuja and was subsequently released.
