“The Super Eagles Lacks Character”- Reactions As Moses Simon, Finidi George Fight Over Pepe’s Jersey

  • As a post-game ritual, players exchange jerseys – which was what Simon and Portugese defender, Pepe were about doing when Finidi George was seen asking to get the jersey instead
  • Although they were inaudible, George was clearly not pleased that Simon beat him to the jersey. The players, however, ended up having their jersey swap and walked away

A mild drama played out between a Super Eagles player, Moses Simon, and legendary Finidi George after Nigeria fell to a heavy 4-0 defeat to Portugal in an International Friendly on Thursday night, November 17, 2022.

While Nigerians were seething from the team’s failure to ‘fight’ on the field and consecutive friendly losses, assistant coach, Finidi George and forward, Moses Simon took the ‘fight’ to after regulation time.

As a post-game ritual, players exchange jerseys – which was what Simon and Portugese defender, Pepe were about doing when George was seen asking to get the jersey instead.

Although they were inaudible, George was clearly not pleased that Simon beat him to the jersey. The players, however, ended up having their jersey swap and walked away.

Two goals in each half wrapped up a commading display for the Euro 2016 Champions.

Members of the Super Eagles will watch the World Cup as spectators after they failed to qualify, losing to West African rivals Ghana on away goal.

The 2022 World Cup which will take place in Qatar starts on 20 November to 18 December 2022. This will be the first World Cup to be held in the Arab world and the second World Cup and the second World Cup held entirely in Asia after the 2002 tournament in South Korea and Japan.

The tournament will be the last with 32 participating teams. The field will increase to 48 teams for the 2026 tournament in the United States, Mexico, and Canada.

Meanwhile, Nigerian football fans had negative reactions to George battling for the jersey with a Super Eagles player after a heavy loss to Portugal.

@epalyHarcourt wrote; “The Super Eagles lacks character, imaging Finidi George dragging Bruno’s the jersey with Simon , an ex international ooo,, played at the highest level won UEFA championsLeague, and titles in Holland and Spain begging for Bruno’s jersey…sack Peseiro now and employ Nnduka Ugbade.”

Oluwa Pedro said; “The way Finidi George was pleading for Pepe’s jersey yesterday was just petty and unacceptable.,,reason I dunno rate Nigeria 🇳🇬 coaches…”

@NGSuperEagles said; “please tell Uncle Finidi George to STOP engaging in jersey swap battle with his own players.

What he did – trying to collect Pepe’s { of Portugal } was a clear misplacement of priorities and an international show of shame!”
