The Time of Abandoning Projects Is Over -FG Summons Contractor Handling N128m Adamawa Irrigation Project

According to Bello Goronyo, the minister of state for water resources and sanitation, the contractor managing the N128 million Talum irrigation project in Adamawa State has been called in by the government.

Following an inspection visit to the project site on Friday in Kiri, Shelleng Local Government Area, the state, Goronyo made this disclosure.

According to the News Agency of Nigeria, American West Africa Agro is the corporation managing the project, which was overseen by Yola’s Upper Benue River Basin Development Authority.

The minister voiced dissatisfaction with the ongoing project and stated that initiatives shouldn’t be abandoned just yet since Nigerians want to know that their money is being spent wisely. “I think the time of abandoning projects is over. We are here to galvanise the resources to ensure that whichever contract you are given, you must implement the contract because Nigerians must get value for their money.

“There is no way somebody can be awarded a contract and sleep without implementing it.

“What I did is a clear demonstration that we are on the ground following the bid of contracts we have awarded and making sure they’re completed and delivered to Nigerian people.

“So, I summoned the contractor to meet me in Abuja on Monday to discuss the issue,” he said.

The minister’s visit to the location was praised by Abubakar Muazu, Managing Director of UBRBDA.

He did, however, point out that there was still more to be done because the water industry requires a lot of capital, which is why public-private partnerships are encouraged.

He claims that just 60% of the water’s potential has been used by the Dangote Sugar mill.

The minister reportedly also visited the Kiri Dam complex and the Dangote Sugar refinery, which use the dam to produce water, according to NAN.

Additionally, he paid a courtesy call on Dr. Barkindo Mustapha, the Lamido of Adamawa, and Governor Ahmadu Fintiri of Adamawa State.
