Defender for the Super Eagles, Ola Aina, has spoken up about his missed penalty kick in the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations semi-final vs South Africa.
After 120 minutes, the match between the AFCON champions finished in a 1-1 tie. Nigeria advanced to the finals on Wednesday night after defeating South Africa’s Bafana Bafana 4-2 on penalties.
The Nottingham Forest player missed his spot-kick in the shootout, sending the ball over the crossbar. But Stanley Nwabali made two stops to guarantee that Jose Peseiro’s team advanced to the championship game.
The likes of Terem Moffi, Kenneth Omeruo, William Troost-Ekong and kelechi iIheanacho all scored their penalties. The Super Eagles will now face Ivory Coast in the AFCON final on Sunday.
Reacting, the former Chelsea player, in a video posted on social media after the game said; “These boys saved me today. I don’t care.”
