Security at the National Assembly has been stepped up ahead of the presentation of the 2024 Appropriation Bill by President Bola Tinubu.
Security agents are deployed to ensure that only those with legitimate business at the National Assembly Complex are allowed in.
As early as 6:30 a.m., journalists arrived in their numbers hoping to access the complex for the business of the day but they were shocked to meet a legion of security men who insisted that only designated “2024 Budget Presentation” tags could grant them passage.
The only thing left for those who showed their legal identification cards and credentials from the National Assembly were stone walls and hours of waiting for the tags.
Just a few cars were present in the normally crowded visitors’ parking lot when our reporter managed to get inside after receiving his tag.
Speaker of the House of Representatives Tajudeen Abbas had arrived at his office for the day’s business when this report was filed.
Security personnel told untagged guests, media assistants, and auxiliary workers to leave, even though several of them were observed having whispered conversations.
