After the Italian club posted a video making fun of Nigerian forward Victor Osimhen’s missed penalty against Bologna, Osimhen deleted all images of Napoli from his Instagram account.
Osimhen, 24, who has had a challenging start to the new campaign, missed a penalty during his team’s goalless draw with Bologna before being replaced by manager Rudi Garcia. The 24-year-old was furious with the manager’s choice.
However, the forward apologized for escalating after being replaced.
The team shared a video on their Instagram page on Tuesday mocking the forward for missing a penalty.
Immediately after, Osimhen’s agent, Roberto Calendar, declared that he “reserves the right to take legal action” against the team due to “very serious damage to the player” brought on by the video.
Victor Osimhen removed all Napoli-related images from his Instagram page amid the controversy, seemingly in retaliation for Napoli’s response to the video mocking him.
As a result of the Super Eagles forward’s failure to sign a new contract with Napoli despite negotiations going on since the conclusion of the 2022–23 season, his future at the club is now in doubt.
