Renowned Afrobeats singer Timaya has voiced his concerns over the destruction of farmlands and vegetation in his home state, Bayelsa, allegedly caused by herders. The artist took to his X page to highlight the worsening situation, calling on the government to intervene and protect farmers from further losses.
Expressing his sadness, Timaya emphasized how the destruction of farmlands is not just an economic setback but also a threat to food security and local livelihoods. He lamented the impact on farmers who depend on agriculture for survival and urged authorities to take immediate action to address the crisis.
In addition to calling for government intervention, the singer strongly criticized open grazing, advocating for the adoption of modern and sustainable livestock management practices. According to Timaya, ranching is a more efficient solution that would help prevent further destruction while ensuring peaceful coexistence between herders and farmers.
His statement comes amid ongoing debates across Nigeria regarding the regulation of open grazing, which has been linked to conflicts and agricultural damage in several states. Many regions have already implemented anti-open grazing laws, urging herders to transition to ranching.
Timaya’s call to action reflects the growing concerns of Nigerians about the need for sustainable agricultural practices and policies that protect farmers from such losses. He hopes that his message will prompt authorities to take decisive measures to address the issue before it escalates further.
