Tinubu Acknowledges Lalong’s Resignation as Labour Minister

President Bola Tinubu has accepted the resignation of Simon Lalong, the Minister of Labor and Employment. According to the Presidency, which verified the news to Punch

With the confirmation of an appeal court decision of November 7, 2023, Lalong will now represent Plateau South Senatorial in the National Assembly.

 “Lalong has resigned. But it was not at the FEC meeting itself. It must have been after the meeting because, if it were earlier, the President or SGF would have announced it during the meeting,” a presidential aide told our correspondent.

Senate President Godswill Akpabio is scheduled to swear in the former governor of Plateau State later this week, it was gathered.

In the months preceding the February presidential election, Lalong held the position of Director-General for the Tinubu Campaign Organization.

The Independent National Electoral Commission’s results show that he was unsuccessful in his bid for a Senate seat.

He did, however, contest the outcome in court and prevail at the Court of Appeal.

After last Wednesday’s Federal Executive Council meeting at the State House, Lalong, a lawyer and two-term Speaker of the Plateau State House of Assembly, reportedly submitted his resignation in private to the President.

Imran Mohammad, a Twitter user in the president’s camp, confirmed this.

Our correspondent did, however, confirm that there will not be an FEC meeting this week, meaning that Lalong’s appearance on Wednesday will most likely be his last as a council member.
