Tinubu Commends President Weah on The Outcome Of Liberia Election

The government and people of Liberia have received congratulations from President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for the smoothly run Liberian presidential election.

According to Naija News, Tinubu revealed this in a statement issued on Saturday by Ajuri Ngelale, his Special Advisor on Media and Publicity.

The President also congratulated President-elect Joseph Boakai on winning the people’s mandate and gave him instructions to bring the nation together and build on the support shown by voters in order to provide effective administration to the Liberian people.

President Tinubu praises President George Weah for exhibiting extraordinary leadership by accepting the results of the election and preventing a sociopolitical catastrophe.

President Weah’s outstanding display of democratic sportsmanship, according to the President, is especially admirable in light of the current threats to democracy in West Africa, which are being carried out by hostile actors determined to thwart the will of the people.

“I commend President George Weah for his sterling example, undiluted patriotism, and statesmanship. He has defied the stereotype that peaceful transitions of power are untenable in West Africa. He has demonstrated that the outcome of elections in the sub-region need not become the propellant of violence and unrest and that the will of the people must always be respected,” the President stated.

Along with thanking the Liberian people for peacefully expressing their rights, President Tinubu urged them to keep up their strong commitment to advancing democracy and peace.

Remember that opposition leader Joseph Boakai had before accepted defeat from Liberian President and legendary African football player George Weah.

The opposition leader was leading the elections in Liberia, according to the results that were made public, with about 51% of the vote.

Weah, the nation’s election umpire, stated that he was unable to reverse Boakai’s lead, nevertheless, as he continued to declare the results.

“The result announced tonight, though not final, indicates that…Boakai is in a lead that we cannot surpass,” Weah said.

“This is the time for graciousness in defeat,” he added.

In his speech, the Liberian president emphasized that despite losing the presidential poll, the people of Liberia won.
