In an effort to lessen the hardships that Nigerians are currently experiencing as a result of the removal of subsidies, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has unveiled a plan to pay N8,000 over the course of six months to 12 million families.
This information was revealed in a letter the speaker of the House of Representatives, Tajudeen Abbas, read aloud during plenary on Tuesday, July 11, 2023.
According to Tinubu, the assistance was intended to help poor and vulnerable Nigerians manage the cost of supplying their basic needs.
The purpose of the letter was to request authorization for additional funding for the National Assembly-scaled national social safety net program.
He said this would have a multiplier effect on about 60 million individuals. In order to guarantee the credibility of the process, he said digital transfers would be made directly to beneficiaries accounts.
