Tinubu to Attend G20-Africa Conference in Germany Saturday

On Saturday, President Bola Tinubu will leave Abuja for Berlin, Germany, where he will attend the G20 Compact with Africa Conference, which German Chancellor Olaf Scholz is hosting on November 20, 2023.

“The G20 CwA Conference will be taking place alongside the Fourth G20 Investment Summit, co-hosted by the German government and German business associations,” a statement signed by Tinubu’s Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Ajuri Ngelale, read Friday.

The statement is titled ‘President Tinubu attends G20 ‘Compact with Africa’ conference in Berlin as energy, trade, and investment top agenda.’

At the conference, Tinubu will discuss the immediate improvement of business and economic cooperation and lay out specific steps to increase investments in vital sectors like energy, trade, infrastructure, and new technologies, among others. He will also confer with other Heads of State and Governments of CwA member countries, bilateral partners, and Heads of International Organizations.

Ngelale stated that when he leads Nigeria’s delegation to the investment summit, the President will maintain his momentum in promoting foreign direct investment in the nation.

The visit is also President Tinubu’s “commitment to diplomatic reciprocity as the invitation to Germany from the German Chancellor is being honoured following the visit of the German Chancellor to Abuja and Lagos, Nigeria, from October 29 to October 30, 2023.”

The German Chancellor’s official mission to Nigeria included high-ranking leaders from German industry organizations, with whom the Nigerian delegation will follow up on their productive earlier talks.

President Tinubu noted that Nigeria is still Germany’s second-largest trading partner in Africa during his talks with Chancellor Scholz in October. He also emphasized the urgent need for more German businesses to invest in the Nigerian market across a variety of Nigerian economic sectors, including transportation, mining, and energy.

The largest economies in Africa and Europe, Nigeria and Germany, respectively, saw a rise in bilateral trade volume from two to three billion euros between 2021 and 2022.

The President will be accompanied by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Yusuf Tuggar; the Coordinating Minister of the Economy and Minister of Finance, Mr Wale Edun; the Minister of Industry, Trade and Investment, Dr Doris Uzoka-Anite; and the Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu.

After taking office almost six months ago, President Tinubu has now traveled to ten different countries, including Germany.

He has already traveled to Kenya, the Benin Republic, India, the United Arab Emirates, the United States of America, Saudi Arabia, France twice, London, and Guinea-Bissau twice.

After the conference is over, he will go back to the nation.
