The newly appointed Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Bianca Ojukwu, has conveyed her strong belief that President Tinubu will eventually grant freedom to Nnamdi Kanu.
She asserts that Kanu’s release is essential, as it would expose the criminal factions that have been operating under the guise of his imprisonment in the South East region.
These groups have perpetrated severe crimes throughout the South East geopolitical zone, and she contends that acknowledging Kanu’s liberation will aid in unveiling their actions and restoring stability in the area.
She made this statement during the 13th memorial anniversary of the late Dim Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu in Owerri on Tuesday.
Addressing the theme, “Unifying the Igbo Race,” Bianca Ojukwu emphasized the necessity of ending the reign of terror in the South East, asserting that the people are not characterized by violence against their own and must unite to reclaim their territory.
She highlighted that the release of Nnamdi Kanu is crucial to distinguishing genuine freedom fighters from the criminals who have been instigating chaos in the Southeast, as the populace faces an existential threat due to the ongoing violence.
She lamented that many years after the passing of Dim Odumegwu Ojukwu, the South East has devolved into a region marked by violence and insecurity, with numerous individuals fleeing their homes and those in the diaspora hesitant to return for fear of being kidnapped by their own for ransom.
Bianca said, “Alaigbo has become a place of violence, insecurity, if you go to communities you will discover that they are empty. South East communities are suffering existential threat today. Kidnappers are kidnapping their own brothers for ransom. I had had to speak to the kidnappers who had kidnapped one of the persons who accompanied me to this event today.
“They said that they are fighting for Biafra and declared a sit-at-home and people who come out for their business are killed. Is this what Dim Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu fought for? People cannot go to their farms because of fear of being kidnapped or killed. Ndigbo are known to be enterprising, and their brothers keepers. We must collectively reclaim our land because our illustrious sons and daughters have all fled the communities and we must continue to propagate the ideals for which Dim Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu stood for.”
“The release of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu has become impetative and President Tinubu understands the importance of his release to the Southeast because his release will help us know those criminals who are hiding under the IPOB to cause violence in the Southeast, masquerading as freedom fighters. I will do whatever it takes to ensure that His Excellency President Tinubu grant our request.”
