Bimbo Akintola, a well-known Nollywood actress, has explained why she supported Bola Ahmed Tinubu for president of Nigeria.
To choose Nigeria’s president and vice president, the 2023 presidential election was held on February 25, 2023.
With 36.61% of the vote and 8,794,726 total votes, Bola Tinubu, a former governor of Lagos State and candidate for the All Progressives Congress, won the contested election.
Akintola anticipates great things from Bola Tinubu’s incoming administration and is confident that the film industry will be given special treatment.
She said, “The Lagos State government has given grants to actors and producers. I was part of the Presidential Campaign Committee. Asiwaju involved actors and musicians in the committee. His wife is also a huge fan of the arts. She was even telling us (actors) about all the films she had seen us in. I don’t have anything against any other person (candidate), but I would rather go with someone whose track record I know.
“I want to know that the person has worked before and will work again. I believe that in the next dispensation, many things will be different in the industry. Tinubu works with people who he knows are intelligent, intellectual and are performers. He has a think tank around him. He never works alone, and the problems of Nigeria cannot be handled by one person.”
‘I don’t like the feminism idea, it’s toxic’ – Bimbo Akintola Declares Herself A Humanist
Nigerian actress Bimbo Akintola has condemned the idea of feminism and distanced herself from it.
The Nollywood thespian described herself as a humanist, not a feminist. She said her passion is for the girl-child and women.
“MY PASSION FOR THE GIRL-CHILD AND THE WOMEN DOES NOT MAKE ME A FEMINIST; I AM A HUMANIST,” THE BEAUTIFUL SCREEN DIVA TOLD PREMIUM TIMES.
“I DON’T LIKE THIS FEMINIST IDEA BECAUSE I THINK THERE’S A FOCUS ON THIS WING OF FEMINISM THAT IS EXTREME. IT’S TOXIC. I DON’T WANT TO BE PART OF THAT. I WANT US TO REALISE THAT YOU CARE ABOUT HUMANS IF YOU SAY YOU ARE A HUMANIST.”
“THAT MEANS EVERY INDIVIDUAL: BOY, GIRL, WOMAN, MAN; EVERYBODY. MY NICHE IS THE WOMEN AND THE GIRL CHILD BECAUSE THERE IS SO MUCH TO DO CONCERNING THIS ISSUE IN NIGERIA.”
